Choosing The Right Sealant For Your Job

Different applications call for different sealant technologies, and choosing the right one ensures a long-lasting, watertight and flexible finish.

Silicone Sealants

Our silicone range covers everything from LMN and acetoxy formulations to premium sanitary solutions. Popular choices include Soudal Silirub LMN, Parasilico AX LMN, Soudal Sanitary Silicone, UniBond 3B Acetoxy Silicone in multiple colours, UniBond 10B Alcoxy Silicone, Sista Sanitary Silicone and the Stay Fresh Anti-Mould Sanitary Silicone for long-lasting hygiene protection.

Specialist Glazing Silicones

For glass bonding, perimeter sealing and high-visibility glazing work, we stock advanced formulations such as the Parasilico Pro Glass range in clear, white and black. For colour-matched façade or frame work, Parasilico RAL7016 Anthracite Grey provides a professional finish with excellent UV resistance.

Roofing & Exterior Sealants

When working outdoors, choose from weatherproof, UV-resistant and highly flexible options such as Soudal Lead Sheet Sealant and the rustic red/terracotta Silrub 2 low-modulus silicone - ideal for roof joints, cladding, leadwork and exterior expansion gaps.

Polyurethane Sealants & Adhesives

For heavier structural bonding and movement joints, Soudal 40FC polyurethane sealant delivers outstanding adhesion and durability. It’s a trusted choice for construction, flooring installation, industrial assembly and other demanding applications.

Fire-Rated Sealants

For fire-stopping and passive protection, we supply the Intumescent Acrylic Firestop Sealant FR66 in white, designed for sealing joints, gaps and penetrations where certified fire resistance is required.

Which Sealant Should I Use? Quick Recommendations

Bathroom or shower sealing

Opt for a sanitary, mould-resistant silicone such as Soudal Sanitary, Sista Sanitary, or Stay Fresh Anti-Mould for long-term cleanliness and elasticity.

uPVC windows and doors

Choose a neutral-cure LMN silicone, such as Soudal Silirub LMN or Parasilico AX, ideal for delicate materials and to avoid discolouration.

Exterior weatherproofing

Select a weatherproof, UV-resistant silicone such as Parasilico RAL7016 Anthracite or Soudal Lead Sealant, designed to withstand harsh outdoor conditions.

Glazing applications

For glass bonding and perimeter seals, use high-clarity, professional glazing silicones such as Parasilico Pro Glass.

Fire-rated sealing

For fire-stopping around cables, pipes and joints, choose the FR66 Intumescent Acrylic.

Heavy-duty bonding

When strength matters most, a polyurethane option like Soudal 40FC provides exceptional durability.

FAQs:

Which sealant is best for bathrooms and kitchens?

Sanitary or anti-mould silicone (such as Sista Sanitary Silicone, Stay Fresh or UniBond 3B) provides the best long-term performance in wet areas.

What’s the difference between LMN and acetoxy silicone?

LMN cures neutrally and is suitable for sensitive materials like metals and natural stone. Acetoxy silicone cures faster but releases vinegar-type acids, making it unsuitable for some substrates.

Can I paint over sealant?

Silicones are generally not paintable. Acrylic and firestop sealants typically are. Always check the product specification.

Which sealant should I use for window frames?

Use an LMN silicone like Parasilico AX or Pro Glass for durable bonding and weather resistance.

What is the best sealant for outdoor use?

Choose a neutral-cure silicone or a specific exterior-grade product such as Parasilico RAL7016 or Soudal Lead Sheet Sealant. These are UV-resistant, weatherproof, and capable of handling movement due to temperature changes.

Can sealant be applied on wet surfaces?

Most silicones must be applied to clean, dry surfaces. However, some products perform better in damp conditions. Always check the manufacturer’s recommendations or contact us for technical guidance.

Should I remove old sealant before applying new?

Yes. For best adhesion and a clean finish, remove all old sealant using a scraper or a silicone remover such as Tec7 Remove All, then clean and dry the surface before reapplying.

What is the difference between sealant and caulk?

Caulk is typically acrylic and paintable, but less flexible. Silicone sealant provides superior flexibility, weather resistance and longevity, making it better for bathrooms, kitchens, glazing and exterior applications.

How long does silicone sealant take to cure?

Most silicone sealants become touch-dry within 20–60 minutes, but full curing typically takes 24 hours. Low-temperature, high-humidity or thick applications may extend curing time. Always refer to the product’s datasheet for precise guidance.

Do you offer bulk prices?

Yes. Many sealants, including Parasilico AX, are available in bulk packs (10, 25, 50, 100+ units) with discounted pricing.

Can you help me choose the right sealant?

Absolutely, our team provides free technical guidance for trade and DIY customers.
