What is an HSS drill bit? 

HSS drill bits (high speed drill bits) are extremely hardwearing cutting tools commonly used for drilling into various materials, including wood, plastic, and metals such as steel, cast steel, grey cast iron, spheroidal graphite iron, sintered metal and low hardness alloyed metals. What types of HSS drill bits are there?
